welcome to Julia Triston’s website!

Julia Triston is a professional artist, designer, maker, lecturer and author in stitched textiles and contemporary art and design techniques.  She has established a vibrant studio in the heart of Durham City, where she teaches and creates her distinctive artwork.  Julia is the creator of the Bra-ra Dress and is known for her quirky use of raw materials, colour and embellishment in her textile artwork.  Her first book 'How to be Creative in Textile Art' (co-authored) was published by Batsford Books in September 2011.  In 2012, Julia is launching funked up fashion - collections of upcycled wearable art from sustainable sources (see latest news for more details).

Julia is co-founder and co-director of STITCHBUSINESS - an award winning, international stitch school specialising in City & Guilds courses in design, embroidery and stitched textiles.

Julia sells and exhibits her work widely, and her work has been extensively documented and published in written and broadcast media.  She is a member of the prestigious Prism textile group, and a Licentiate of Merit with the Society of Designer Craftsmen. Julia runs her own workshop programme and undertakes consultancy work and  private and public commissions.

Whether you want more information about Julia’s courses or her inspiration, or want to buy a signed copy of her book, or would like to commission her to make you something colourful, unusual or wearable you’ll find it all on this website!
